Dr Joseph Davar is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, London and Honorary Senior Lecturer at UCL.
He practices in numerous other prominent hospitals in the London area, including: The Wellington Hospital; The Wellington Diagnostic Centre; Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth; The Garden Hospital and Spire Bushey Hospital.
Dr Davar specialises in Non-Invasive Diagnosis and Management of Coronary Artery Disease, Valvular Heart Disease, Heart Failure and Hypertension, Cardiomyopathies (diseases of heart muscles), including Chemotherapy induced Cardiomyopathies.
Dr Davar has been practicing cardiology for over 30 years and his practice spans a wide range cardiac problems including chest pain, high blood pressure, disease of the valves of the heart, diseases of the muscle of the heart (cardiomyopathy), chemotherapy induced cardiomyopathy, various palpitations, perioperative risk assessment and cardiovascular risk assessment.
Dr Davar’s earlier training was undertaken in Tbilisi and Moscow where he was awarded the esteemed A.L Myasnikov Prize of Academy of Medical Sciences of USSR for his book 'Mitral Valve Prolapse' (1985). His book "Echocardiography Atlas" (1988) was selected for State Prize .
Completing additional training in The Brompton Hospital and The Royal Free Hospital, he holds the position of lead consultant for services including: Valvular Heart Disease; Carcinoid Heart Disease and Imaging.
Dr Davar regularly lectures both nationally and internationally.
He led and coordinated a large team of international experts preparing 1st International Guidelines in Carcinoid Heart Disease ( publushed in 2017 in Journal of American College Cardiology).
Dr Joseph Davar published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals
Dr Davar has been recognised on numerous occasions for his advances in the field of medicine, including being awarded a research oriented British Heart Foundation Grant and being elected an International Fellow of the American College of Cardiology in 2012.
Dr Davar holds Level III accreditation in Cardiac CT in UK and USA

Current Position
Head of the the Valvular Heart Disease and Carcinoid Heart Disease Service
Established and leads the Valvular Heart Disease Multidisciplinary Team Meetings, which are attended by Cardiologists, Cardiothoracic Surgeons and Cardiac anaesthetists from The Royal Free , the Barnet and St Bartholomew's Hospitals
Head of the Cardiac CT Service, which includes services such as CT Coronary Angiography and Assessment of Valvular Heart Disease with CT .
The Cardiac CT Service of the RFH was the top ranked service in 2013-2017 for the least dose of radiation delivered during procedures based on the Audits from British Society of Cardiac Computed Tomography .)

Developed the Stress Echocardiography Service ( from 0 procedures to 1500 procedures a year - one of the largest Services in UK)
Developed and for many years led the Transoesophageal Echocardiography Service
Transformed the Non-Invasive Cardiology Service of the RFH into one of the largest practices in the United Kingdom and for many years led the Service.
