CT CORONARY ANGIOGRAPHY

CT Coronary Angiography: Text

CT Coronary Angiography: Selected Work
Non Invasive imaging of the coronary arteries with Computed Tomography is the state of the art technique.
Current CT scanners allow imaging of coronary arteries with a minimal dose of radiation - 0.5 to 1 msev.
In order to achieve imaging contrast agents are introduced and usually premedication is required in order to slow the heart rate down in order to achieve acquisition of the image in one cardiac cycle.
We utilize Cardiac CT to visualize coronary arteries , to assess Heart Valves in selected case as well as a prerequisite for TAVI: percutaneous replacement of aortic valve. In addition Cardiac CT allows us to assess coronary plaque morphology and detect "vulnerable" coronary plaques.
In 2013- 2017 years - Cardiac CT Service at the Royal Free Hospital ,which I lead, is at the top of the league in UK with regard to the dose of the radiation delivered based on Audits conducted by British Society of Cardiac computed Tomography.
